Allowable Schedule Changes

 

Change request must be made by Friday, September 28th.

 

Please understand that requests for allowable schedule changes cannot be honored via email or phone. Allowable schedule changes are limited to leveling down and/or dropping an extra class.  We are unable to honor requests for changes in electives, teachers, class periods, or free periods.

What kind of schedule changes are allowed?

Allowable schedule changes include leveling down and/or dropping an extra class that is not needed for graduation. Requests are dependent on availability and are not a guarantee.

We are unable to honor requests for specific teachers, class periods, and free periods. Once each students course request is entered and generated into the Master schedule, Academic Advisors spend time balancing classes and allocating teaching loads equitably. It is important to keep class sizes equal and not over load any one particular class.

 

Electives include more than just the visual and performing arts classes (drama, music, dance, video production, etc.).  This includes extra science classes beyond Biology or Honors Biology and first year physical science class or minimum required math classes (Algebra 1, Geometry Algebra II (regular/Honors).  Example of elective classes: AP Biology, Marine Ecology, Anatomy and Physiology, AP Physics, Personal Finance, Intro to Stats, AP Calculus etc.

 

Why can’t I make the changes I want?

Last spring Academic Advisors met with each student to conduct a transcript review, talk about post-secondary plans, and discuss courses for the following year. In addition, teachers met with students to place them in the appropriate classes. Students then had several opportunities to make changes to their fall 2018 course requests.  The course requests were then be finalized in order to create a master schedule for this school year. Teacher assignments cannot be allocated until the master schedule is built. There is limited flexibility in making course changes once the master schedule is built.

 

 

How the portal works:

  1. Student goes to the Guidance Portal & logs in with Aeries login information

  2. Aeries FALL schedule appears with select boxes for Leveling/Dropping.

  3. The student selects the class then picks a reason (Overall Schedule too difficult. Coursework in this class is too difficult,  etc…)

  4. Email goes to the parent’s Aeries Portal email only to confirm (note: if parent never confirms the process halts)

  5. Once confirmed by parent an email goes to the teacher to conference with the student. Teacher has 2 business days to respond and conference with student.

  6. Student MUST attend classes on the original schedule and will be notified if the change is approved by their academic advisor.
